ABOUT OUR LEATHER

The Lust for Leather collections are made of the finest leather. Which types of leather we use and how the leather should be maintained is described below. If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to call (00 31 6 55734047) or e-mail info@lustforleather.nl.

Types of Leather

Our clothes are mainly made of cow leather. Our lingerie is made of lambskin, because of its soft and supple qualities. Other types of leather, like calf, dear, elk and even fish leather, are used for the more exclusive designs of our Extravaganza and Tailormade collections. We only use leather of animals that have been slaughtered for meat consumption.

Blemishes

Although leather is a product of nature, it takes about three weeks and 30 to 50 phases of treatment to make leather out of hide. Only the most perfect hides receive a leather treatment, but blemishes, like scars of insect bites, scratches or injuries caused by horns, will always be present. And the wrinkles of the neck and groin are visible by the structure of the pores. All this ruggedness makes leather even more beautiful. It gives leather its personality and clearly distinguishes it from imitation leather.

Colours

The garments of our Ready to Wear collection are mainly manufactured in black, brown and red leather. For the Extravaganza and Tailormade collections many other colours are used. Please ask us which colours can be ordered.

Purchase and Maintenance

Leather feels like second skin, breathes and keeps you warm. And, contrary to other fabrics, leather looks even better when it has been worn a lot. Although leather gives much and asks for little, we did line up some practical maintenance suggestions.

Suggestions:

  1. Hang your leather garment outside to get rid of smells.
  2. You can remove dirt with a damp cloth.
  3. Leather tolerates moist, but shouldn’t be soaked. Let your leather garment dry slowly when wet, not too close to a source of heat.
  4. If necessary, leather can be dry-cleaned. Check with friends or acquaintances if the selected dry-cleaning establishment is reliable.
  5. In time a leather garment may loose its fit. Keep this in mind when you purchase it. If a garment has lost its fit, dry-cleaning is a possibility. Another option is to have it altered.
  6. Keep your leather garments hanging in a room that is not too damp. It’s better not to fold your leather garments.
  7. If the leather is dry, give it a maintenance treatment with wax or leather soap once or twice a year.
